Berthoud watch made from recycled whiskey barrel wood and stainless steel

The Berthoud watch, by Mathieu Blanchard, is freely designed with inspiration from the most prodigious master watchmakers the field has ever known. This model is thus named in tribute to Ferdinand Berthoud: a chronometer manufacturer who left his mark on history with his fabulous creations, notably his marine clocks which, in the 18th century, guided the ships of the Kings of France toward new horizons.

The grain of the wood, like a handprint, is unique, which makes each watch entirely different. Every watch is crafted with great care so that it is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The durability of a product depends mainly on its materials. For Mathieu Blanchard Signature watches, we use materials that are durable over time.

For the glass, we use sapphire crystal: This is the glass most frequently used on today's high-end watches. Sapphire crystal is 10 times harder than mineral glass and 4 times harder than acrylic glass. It is virtually impossible to scratch except by diamond, which is even harder. This glass is laboratory-designed.

For the watch cases and straps, we have put enormous effort into producing using sustainable materials such as natural wood, sourced from sustainable sources, and matte-finish stainless steel. This finish provides visual durability, as signs of wear over time are much less visible than with a polished finish.

As nature lovers, it is often a source of calm and comfort for us, and very often the starting point for our jewelry & accessories collections. We are proud to offer watches crafted from noble and sustainable materials. Our main material is wood, which offers a significant environmental advantage compared to other comparable materials: low carbon emissions during the production process and the biodegradable nature of the materials.

Our watches are handmade with great precision by a team with a wealth of experience. Each watch is naturally unique and crafted with real wood such as walnut and oak (sourced from whiskey barrels).
